as said yesterday, living in the city where artist like Willem Tetrode had to flee to catholic Köln, and no works of him survived the iconoclasm in his own country.
I will not tolerate self-suppression, censorship and redrawing of the borderlines for freedom of speech, or a Dutch Iron Curtain!
We've had enough of that in the days of the reformation when all artists who had been celebrated and invited by William of Orange just years earlier
and had decorated our city hall and churches were prosecuted and fled Delft.
See the pages on Tetrode's sculpture at the db/queerart masterclass.
sadly, it looks like these days have returned, not in Russia or Afghanistan, but on our own doorstep.
One of the guys prosecuted for his art being too realistic in this century in Amsterdam is a dear friend of mine.
of course you can get in contact with the artist via his own website,
but these days, thanx to the blind insanity of an Amstertdam d.a. , he's only doing still lives :

now, doesn't that bring tears to your eyes ?
if you have comments on anything,
don't hesitate to let me know.
